Merino knit is a thinner, single-ply, stretchy fabric for everyday wear and baby clothes. Interlock is a double weave, thicker and stronger, better suited for winterwear and shape-holding products.

Merino wool is a soft, velvety-feel wool fabric that keeps you very warm and is suitable for baby knickers, linings, hats and cosy home garments.

A 180-200 g/m² merino knit fabric is suitable for baby clothes. For older children’s blouses and hats 200-230 g/m². For winter clothing, choose 240 g/m² or more.

How to choose a merino for sport?

Yes. The fine wool fibre makes the merino fabric very soft and non-shrink. OEKO-TEX certified merino wool is also suitable for babies and people with atopic skin.

Merino wool can be washed in a washing machine on the wool programme, using a gentle cycle and low spin. Superwash merino resists regular washing well.

Superwash merino wool generally remains stable. Untreated merino may shrink by 5-10% depending on the programme.

A fine-stringed jersey can easily become top-heavy when subjected to heavy abrasion, but gentle washing and proper care will significantly reduce top-heading.

Yes, most of the merino fabrics in the Merinofabrics.eu range are mulesing-free. This information is indicated on each product label.

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 confirms that the fabric has been tested for harmful substances and is safe for baby clothes.

For children’s underwear, 0.5 to 1 metre is usually sufficient; for adult blouses, 1.2 to 1.5 metres is recommended, depending on cut and size.

Yes. Most of the merino fabrics are available in 0.5 metre and some products are also available in smaller cuts.
